Effects of pH, EC and Physical Properties in the Mixed Media Made of Organic Materials on the Growth of Euphorbia pulcherrima

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the physical or chemical effects of mixed media of several domestic organic materials on the growth of Euphorbia pulcherrima W. ¢¥V-10¢¥ using rice straw, rice hull, saw dust, and peanut hull with 1%, 2% and 4% H©üO©ü or 10% Ca(OH)©ü with or without paddy field soil in volume, respectively. The pH of media increased only in substrate containing peat moss and decreased in others with Euphorbia pulcherrima cultivation. The bulk density of all media decreased. The porosity and moisture holding capacity of media decreased only in substrate of light media mixed. A better growth of Euphorbia pulcherrima was shown in peat moss and saw dust. The rice and peanut hull treated H©üO©ü and Ca (OH)©ü respectively were good as mixing materials and were not significantly different with peatmoss mixing media. Substrate containing paddy 40% field soil was better for the growth than the substrate in the 20% paddy field soil. As for the mixed media, sand, paddy field soil and saw dust were proved to be proper composts with mixed ratio of 2 : 4 : 4 respectively. The correlation coefficients between dry matter and physicochemical characteristics were highly signigicant negatively relative to others in EC.
